Training

Training is important to us all if we are to progress both our fitness and skill as well as bonding the squad.

Training at Moseley Oak takes place on a state of the art IRB Approved 3G Rubber Crumb All Weather floodlit pitch and involves all aspects of the modern game. Attention is paid to all players to ensure they fulfill their potential.

Fitness is a key element for any successful player. Training is specially designed around the player's abilities to ensure progression is steady and monitored. Speed, quickness and agility are all vital core skills to have on side and can be the difference between winning and losing.

All the key elements of the modern game are coached by John and his coaching team. Whether you are a beginner wishing to learn the basics or an experienced player looking to learn the more intricate and complicated arts, our twice weekly training sessions will give you the opportunity to develop your game and meet  your rugby aspirations.

During a typical training session on a Tuesday you can expect, after a warm up, to take part in a conditioning exercise, designed to increase your stamina and core strength however all drills are rugby specific and fit into our game plan. After fitness drills we will normally move into a contact session, aimed at developing the physical aspect of the game. This involves tackling and off-loading drills, rucking and mauling and defensive techniques as well as helping to develop a player's awareness under pressure. All contact sessions are monitored by Head Coach John White and all players must have the correct safety equipment before taking part. These include gum shields as standard and any impact protection as required.

Thursday' sessions tend to be more game focused. After a selection of warm up exercises, the squad run through some handling and skills drills, again, always game related and with player progression in mind. The squad will then split into forwards and backs to run through more detailed roles of their positions such as scrummaging and line out calls for the forwards and set piece run throughs for the backs before coming together to run off as a team in preparation for Saturday's match.
