Moseley Oak prevail despite strong Saltleians revival

Moseley Oak defeated Old Saltleians 43-24 at Billesley Common on Saturday 20th October 2012.

Playing up the slope, Moseley had to defend against strong Salts pressure at the start. After 6 minutes a loose kick saw Jon Perks and Antonio Solomon create a fast counter attack for Perks to score in the corner. Three minutes later, a penalty was kicked to the left corner and a Duncan White lineout catch was driven over for White to score. Pons converted - 12-0.

Both sides attacked with pace and after 30 minutes a mid-field scrum saw Number 8, Duncan White drive strongly. He was supported by Joe Baker and following the ruck Antonis Solomon scored in the right hand corner.

With the first half 37 minutes old, Moseley pressure caused a Salts mid-field error and Adam Billig through to collect and score under the posts. The conversion saw a half-time score of 24-0.

Early in the second half, 2 quick penalties were followed by the try of the match when a scrum on the Moseley 10 metre line saw Captain, Jack Richards, slice through the centres before drawing the Salts wing and full-back wide and putting John Perks in for a spectacular score.

At 35-0 Moseley Oak dropped the intensity of their tackling and two Saltleian tries followed, both connected. A Moseley penalty interrupted the Saltleians flow and a 3rd try followed quickly, all with 14 men as Salts had a player sin-binned for a late tackle.

On 66 minutes a loose kick was collected and Antonio Solomon handed-off 3 defenders as he sped down the left for a 2nd try.

Finally, loose tackling from Moseley and good spirit from Saltleians saw a final touchdown.

43-24 was a good score line for Moseley Oak putting them top of Midlands 2 West. Next week they travel to second placed Wolverhampton. Their play for 80% of Saturday’s game will serve them well, but, they must defend for 80 minutes. A key fixture ahead.
